Overview

Kaelo Rax is a freelance explorer and self-taught Architect specialist. Unlike the academics of the Archaeologists of Truth, Kaelo prefers the "hands-on" approach—traversing unstable ruins and deciphering glyphs while dodging security drones. The player first encounters him during Chasing Architects, where he has become trapped in a localized reality loop within the Nebula Ruins.

Appearance

Kaelo is a human in his late 20s with an athletic build suited for climbing through ancient structures. He wears a custom-modified survival suit adorned with various charms and small Architect trinkets. His most notable piece of gear is a "Glint-Scanner" mounted on his shoulder, which projects a soft amber light used to highlight hidden Architect inscriptions. He has a mop of sandy hair and a quick, infectious grin.

Personality

Kaelo is driven by a genuine wonder for the ancient world. While others fear the Architects' power, he views their works as a grand puzzle waiting to be solved. He is optimistic to a fault, often underestimating the danger of a situation in favor of a "once-in-a-lifetime" discovery. He values freedom and discovery over credits or political influence.

Dialogue Style

Kaelo speaks with a youthful energy, often using metaphors related to games or puzzles. He is quick to offer a joke even in dire circumstances.

• The Unbound: Kaelo appreciates their lack of rules, though he finds their focus on survival a bit limiting for his grander ambitions.

Design Notes

Kaelo is intended to be the "heart" of the exploration loop. His enthusiasm should balance the more serious and philosophical tones of the main story. He becomes available as a companion only after the player rescues him and completes the primary objective of Chasing Architects.

Kaelo's family was part of the original founding of the Human Collective, but they were disgraced when his grandfather claimed the Collective was suppressing evidence of the Architects' return. Kaelo is trying to find proof to clear his family's name, unaware that his grandfather might have been more right than anyone realized.
