Humans are unique among consciousness-wielding species for achieving mastery in mere centuries rather than millennia—a fact that makes other species both impressed and wary.

The Collective is governed by a council representing Earth's former nations, though real power increasingly lies with the Consciousness Academy and the military command structure led by Captain Orion. As humanity expands into space, new colonies gain representation, changing the political landscape.
