Mistcliff Reach
Mistcliff Reach
Mistcliff Reach is a cozy, vertically-oriented village built directly into the side of a towering cliff that overlooks the perpetually fog-shrouded Veil-Mist Bay. For generations, the town was known for its quiet charm and The Seepage—subtle, glowing wisps of magic that leaked through the cracks in the cobblestones and cellar walls.
The World
The village is a marvel of vertical engineering, with houses perched on crags and connected by winding staircases and rope bridges. Below lies the Veil-Mist Bay, a source of trade and mystery, where ships arrive at the Sky-Pier Pier.
Tone & Themes
Cottagecore High-Stakes: The aesthetic is warm, rustic, and inviting, but the rising power of The Seepage introduces a layer of tension and moral complexity. Discovery & Consequence: Players explore the environment to find magic and must decide how to use it, impacting the community.
Key Factions
- The Cliff-Guard: Dedicated to using magic for the town's protection and healing.
- The Mist-Merchants: Seek to hoard magic to control trade and personal wealth.
Game Mechanics
- Environmental Spellcasting: Discovering spells by interacting with glowing flora and whispering winds.
- Moral Tapping: A system where the method of extracting magic influences the player's alignment and the world's reaction.
Design Notes
Mistcliff Reach should feel lived-in. Use verticality in level design to create a sense of scale and precariousness. The magic should feel like a natural, if now volatile, part of the plumbing of the world.
