Mist-Dredging

Overview

Mist-Dredging is the hazardous profession of harvesting solidified arcane remnants and rare materials from the thick fogs of Veil-Mist Bay. As The Seepage has intensified, the bay's mists have begun to "curdle," forming physical clusters of magic known as Mist-Salt or Vapor-Glass.

The Process

Dredgers operate from the lower platforms of Sky-Pier Pier or from specialized shallow-draft boats. They use long, silver-filigreed Dredging Hooks and weighted nets to "catch" the glowing eddies in the fog.

The work is dangerous; the fog often carries Whispering Winds that can disorient the mind, and the magic itself is increasingly volatile. A "bad pull" can result in a localized arcane burst that might teleport a dredger several yards into open air or flash-freeze their equipment.

Key Figures

  • Barnaby 'Barnacles' Thorne: The oldest active dredger in the Reach, known for his uncanny ability to "smell" a rich vein of magic in the mist.

Impact

Mist-Dredgers provide the raw materials for the Mist-Merchants' trade empire. The scarcity and danger of the job have driven up the price of Mist-Salt, making it the primary currency of the black market in the Drip-Stone Tavern.

Connections

Design Notes

In-game, dredging can be a gathering mini-game. Players must time their "pulls" to match the rhythm of the fog's movement, with higher risks (deeper fog) yielding more potent arcane materials.
