Dissolution Spawns
Overview
Dissolution Spawns are horrific entities born from the unravelling of consciousness within Fading Zones. They are the "waste products" of the Dissolution process—shards of broken memories and fragmented souls given a malevolent form.
Appearance
They have no fixed shape, appearing as shifting masses of "static" and "glitch" effects. Occasionally, a recognizable human or alien feature (a face, a hand) will momentarily appear in the mass before being re-absorbed.
Behavior
Spawns are relentlessly hostile. They are drawn to the "vibration" of active consciousness and will swarm any wielder they detect. They move with jerky, unnatural motions.
Abilities
- Erosion Touch: Melee attacks that reduce the player's maximum health temporarily.
- Consciousness Drain: A channeled ability that steals energy from the player's ability pool.
- Spatial Tear: The spawn briefly vanishes and reappears behind the player.
Variants
- Spawn Swarmer: Small, fast, and weak.
- Spawn Behemoth: Massive, slow, and capable of dealing devastating damage.
Encounter Design
Encountered in large numbers within Fading Zones. They often ambush the player by "manifesting" out of the thin air. Recommended level: 35+.
Loot Table
- Broken Memory Shard: Can be traded to the Archaeologists for lore.
- Unstable Essence: A volatile crafting material.
Design Notes
The Spawns should be visually and audibly disturbing. Their sound effects should include distorted whispers and static.
